New Performance Strategy for Scottish Football
New Performance Strategy for Scottish Football
The strategy which is endorsed by the board of the Scottish FA, represents the most radical change in how talented young players will be developed in the future and contains a number of innovative features.

There are five pillars of the Performance Strategy:
  • Assuring Scotland's top performers have the ability to spend 10,000 hours in contact with the ball, supported by quality coaching over a ten year period from age 8/9
  • Providing the opportunity for the best players to play with and against the best players
  • Establishing a world class Coaching Community building on the excellent coaching programmes run by the Scottish FA
  • Building a culture of performance across the game, where reward and recognition are given to those who deliver real quality development of more, better young players for Scotland's international teams
  • Developing a new style of play for Scottish international teams that enables Scottish international teams to qualify and be at major finals in the future.
The strategy calls for the appointment of a Performance Director supported by investment as never previously provided, and will be executed through a number of programmes and change initiatives.

The Executive Summary of the strategy is available through Associated Documents on this page or contact us on +44 141 943 0330.
