We were commissioned in summer 2005 to work with one of the world's leading real-estate advisory companies to develop a strategy and organisational model for an integrated Capital Markets business in Europe, Middle East and the rest of the World

Genesis was hired in summer 2005 to work with one of the world’s leading real-estate advisory companies to develop a strategy and organisational model for an integrated Capital Markets business in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

The background to this exercise is a series of dramatic changes over a short period in...

  • The total volume of investment going into Real Estate across EMEA

  • The sources and profiles of investors in Real Estate in EMEA (more, and more varied funds,

REIT’s, etc.; more investment from new geographies e.g. Middle East, Asia, Australia/NZ,

    US)

  • The destinations of real-estate investment in EMEA (e.g. new sectors (Healthcare,

Infrastructure, etc.), new geographies (C&E Europe)

  • The nature of investment in real-estate (e.g. increasing role of indirect investment, volume

    of cross-border investment)

  • The competitive environment for real-estate advisory services in EMEA The scale and scope of our client’s business in EMEA (rapid expansion in geographic

    “footprint”, acquisition of new capabilities)

Our team worked with a steering group of those most heavily involved in Capital Markets-related activities across Europe to build alignment around the opportunity that Capital Markets represents for the business and from there to gain agreement on our client’s ambitions and targets in that area for the medium term. We achieved this through an interactive, discussion-based process organised around a series of facilitated workshops with the team, each of which was enabled by background research, analysis and interviews.

Having gained agreement on the targets, we then proceeded to work on building a strategy for delivering the targets and an organisational/leadership model for delivering the strategy. Since the completion of these “design” phases at the end of 2005, we have continued to work with the client to support communication of the strategy across the company as well as various aspects of the implementation of our work. Two years on, our client’s Capital Markets performance is ahead of schedule and ambitions are being raised considerably as to what can be achieved over the medium-term as they look forward from here.
